Mumbai Film Festival 2016: Day 3 Must Watch!

So here is our recommendations for the 3rd Day of the festival. Better book your seats for this day in advance as being a Sunday there is going to be a mad rush.

PVR ICON

10:30 am – Red Turtle
The latest film from the Japanese animation powerhouse Studio Ghibli, this one’s a dialogue-less film that follows the major life stages of a castaway on a deserted tropical island populated by turtles, crabs and birds. If you have seen any of Studio Ghibli’s films, you wouldn’t be missing this one.

8:30 am – Graduation/ I, Daniel Blake
We can’t really make our mind about which film to recommend between these two. Also, we have written about both here.

Isabelle Huppert in ‘Elle’

PVR ECX

10:00am – Elle
Legendary French actress Isabelle Huppert gives a standout performance in this thriller in which she plays the CEO of a successful video game company who tries to learn the identity of the man who raped her.

1:00pm – Swiss Army Man
We have already written about this film here.

5:15 pm – My Life as a Zucchini
This year there seem to be a handful animation films worth recommending. This is a stop animated one. It is about orphans in a children’s home discovering happiness when they have a gang of friends and learn how to fall in love.

8:00 pm – The Wailing
Another one of those thrillers that the bloody Koreans are so good at! If you haven’t heard of this one already given that there is a lot of buzz on film forums about this film, we highly recommend it. In the film, suspicion leads to hysteria when rural villagers link a series of brutal murders to the arrival of a mysterious stranger.

LA REVE

7:30 pm – Under the Shadow
We have already written about why we recommend this film here.

PVR Phoenix (LOWER PAREL)

4:30 pm – Lost in Paris
A slapstick comedy in a film festival? Yes, you read that right. It is touted as a film that will bring life into the genre of comedy reminiscent of the cinema of Buster Keaton.

7:45 pm – Lathe Joshi
The trailer of this film promises a well observed, subtle drama.

8:45 pm – Franca: Chaos and Creation
A documentary on the longest serving chief editor of Vogue by her own son. This has been getting rave reviews and seems unmissable.

REGAL

5:15 pm – The Salesman
We have already written about why we recommend this film here.

8:00 pm – After the Storm
We have already written about why we recommend this film here.

PVR KURLA

Unfortunately, there seems to be nothing to recommend here. It would be best to skip this venue for some other place on this day.

PVR MULUND

5:00 pm – Paradise
A black and white holocaust drama that has won the Silver Bear at Venice this year!

8:00 pm – Commune
A stylish melodrama from Thomas Vinterberg who has made the exceptional Hunt with Mads Milkensen back in 2012.
